Protection through the Fiery Furnace!

I have been really pensive lately. Especially when trying to trust God despite adverse circumstances. Well God being God has a way of bringing things back to our remembrance to help us remember where God brought us from and to reflect on God’s grace and mercy.

When I was in pre-school or Kindergarten, I distinctly recall being afraid and fearful usually of some fictitious “boogie monster”. Well being  two years older than he – I often passed my fears onto my brother.

One night in particular, my brother and I were pretty riled up into our fears so much until I conjured up a recipe to keep us from this dreadful “boogie man”!

I told my brother that he should sleep in my room as the first step to keep the “boogie man”away. I, then, suggested that we keep the lamp on because light was the next line of defense.  Following,  I decided that we would have more light if we removed the shade and finally for ultimate protection,  it was necessary for us to put the shade-less lamp in the bed with us.

Well, that light bulb lying on our pillow in bed next to us caught fire while we were sleeping. The way this particular home was designed our bedrooms were on the complete opposite side of the house – we were separated from our parents’ master bedroom by a hallway, family room, and kitchen.

I recall being awake the next morning seated at my mother’s feet as she gently cut the singed pieces of hair from my head. My father was in the background saying that he came to check on my brother and I in the middle of the night out of routine.  Once he opened my bedroom door he saw my brother nestled in the corner of the bed lying against the wall, while I was lying on the pillow which was in flames.

It wasn’t until God brought this incident to remembrance the other day that I realized the significance of neither of us feeling the heat from the fire.

The miracle of walking away from the fire unscathed would have been more than enough, but our God being a God of overflow made it so that we slept peacefully through that terrible incident with no awareness of any danger.

As a matter of fact, God provided the biblical reference of Daniel 3 with the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego being not only thrown into the fiery furnance, living through it without one hair being singed, but an entire kingdom was converted & the three men were also rewarded by the king!

God’s providing this story as a reference makes me think about my own life as a living testimony and how this example is one of many about how my God has rescued me! I am more than happy to shout it from the rooftop about God’s goodness & mercy as I know full – well about it! Hallelujah,  my God is worthy to be praised!

If you don’t know Jesus,  do set up an appointment to meet Him today! I promise you will not be disappointed – as He provides a way for us all to get to The Father (God) and without Jesus and calvary we would all probably still have to offer living sacrifices at the altar.

Thank God for grace.

Blessings to You My Friends!

Perspective – Time to Wipe those Dusty Glasses Off!

If you feel as though everytime you receive a bit of sunshine it’s overcast by a cloudy/rainy day, then this is for you!

In March, my husband and I attended my cousin Nikki’s marriage retreat for the first time. The Lord brought a discussion from that retreat to my remembrance today that is worth sharing.

As it was my turn to weigh in on the previous year, I distinctly remember saying to the group that the year was full of good times, but unfortunately all of the good seemed to be overshadowed by a traumatic event of some sort. This was of course before my perception changed.

At the time of this retreat, I was experiencing a miscarriage; as I am today shortly after moving into my beautiful new home with Jerrell, my husband and Max, my dog.  Yesterday I was thinking we have a lot of empty rooms that need children; instead of basking in the blessing of my new home.

It wasn’t until today when I was speaking on how the Lord has been moving with a friend today that I realized I had it all wrong – backwards even. As a matter of fact it wasn’t until I dashed upstairs to grab the cleansing cloth & spray, gently wiped my glasses, took a deep breath in, then took a look around me and truly appreciated all that God has graced me with…A loving husband, a great dog, & salvation for starters.

Could it be that I have had this thing wrong this entire time? It’s not that all of my good moments have been trumped by something bad, but God loves me so much, knowing that life would include trials, he sprinkled sunshine into my cloudy days to lessen the brunt of the impact.

My God! Glory!  If you haven’t already, I encourage you to try Jesus. I promise life with Him gets sweeter as the days go by.

Be blessed.

Excited About a Mountain!

On most Saturday mornings my husband jumps out of bed excited about a mountain! Excited about a mountain, you say? Yes indeed excited about a mountain! He knowingly dresses in his work out attire, takes, a 20 minute drive, parks at a location down the street and around the corner from Stone Mountain & State Park to make the same journey that he has a week before only to return again.

I’ve joined him on occasion, but this morning, like many, I chose to sleep in (lay around). Then it hit me! As he excitedly brought me oatmeal in bed and recommended that I take a neighborhood bike-ride since I didn’t want to go with, wait a minute…there’s something to be modeled here!

And no this isn’t about exercise, though it is a necessary part of our lives, but it is instead about how we approach life’s obstacles.

Do you stomp and complain as you get up for work in the mornings?

Do you lay in bed at night full of worry about what is to come tomorrow?

If you do, you are not alone. I would encourage us all to fret not! And instead of being worried about a mountain, go ahead and get excited about it! I’m sure some of you may be thinking, she has surely lost it now. No, I assure you, I have not! In fact, I can see so much clearer now!

Look at it this way. Understand that while your Heavenly Father sits high, He still resides with you wherever you are and everywhere you are! Understand that even before the battle has begun, you have already won!

If you have already won, you have no choice, but to be excited about that mountain!

The victory is yours! For it says so in His word!

See 2 Samuel 22:33-41 and Isaiah 40:28-31. No excuses. Whip out your Bible or your Bible app! And run up that mountain! We can do it!

God Bless.

Peace be still.

Peace Be Still ~ Rev. James Cleveland

I have been playing this song on repeat all morning.

After experiencing last night’s intense storm/tornado watch at home alone with the dog, I have been reminded of my super- reliable security system.

No I’m not talking about Pinnacle, who does a great job of arming and providing surveillance of my home, but I’m talking about a man named Jesus.

And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace be still. And the wind ceased and there was great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

~ Mark 4:37-41 (KJV)

Assuredly I had a calm about me, as the mighty winds appeared to shake the house, the heavy rains pounded, the lightning flashed, the thunder bolted, and the dog released the most dreaded howl.

Our Heavenly Father has an amazing power to allow the weather to commence like a symphony of many instruments with bold sounds contrasted by the soft heartbeats of His children who have truly known Him long enough to trust His unwavering faithfulness.

I thought that even the strongest atheist can’t help but revere God when beholding nature and witnessing how amazingly God can orchestrate it to do just want He wants.

Over the past few weeks I have witnessed some amazing sights and wondered, how can anyone doubt that God exists after taking in some of the greatest wonders in the world like: mountains, oceans, flowers, rainbows?Beautiful, beyond human imagination! Here are a few of those sights I’ve been privileged to capture.

God Bless & Amen.
