About Last Night: A Revelatory Dream

More frequently, God has been speaking to me in the format of dreams.
About Last Night…

I dreamed that there was a rowdy crowd of unfamiliar people in my home. This group was comprised of mostly men. What was even more troublesome, these people were crowded in my bedroom misusing my belongings with much disrespect. To make matters worst, my husband was home and did not appear to have a problem with these individuals invading our space.

God revealed that this dream had a message, but it wasn’t until later today that God provided the interpretation.

Many of us human beings are particular about protecting our belongings. Oh you know, we are mindful of our cell phones and our purses. We alarm our cars and even our homes. We are very careful to not leave our belongings around people we deem untrustworthy for one reason or another. Most certainly we are sure to not invite untrustworthy individuals into our physical homes.

But you know what’s funny? God allowed me to realize that while we are careful to do the above, we rarely guard our hearts and minds in these same ways.

Let’s discuss this in a way that resonates. How many of us have been having a “good day” where we have been in a great mood and it felt like the sun was shining all over the place? Then you walk into someone who says something to you that is interpreted as rude, they tell you “no”, or they criticize you about something that brings or reminds you of some sort of pain?

Well God is urging us to think in the same way about mental intrusion as we do about the intrusion upon our physical property. While we so readily guard material possessions that are physically replaceable, we should secure our beautiful minds even moreso, especially since we will only be granted ONE for the rest of our lives. Furthermore, this “one” mind that we have operates in a fashion where memories are stored and built on top of previous ones that are then reconstructed and in-turn shape our behaviors. These memories also shape the way we perceive things, how we interact and engage (or not engage) others, and so on for the rest of our lives.

In my dream the intrusive people can reflect mind intrusions (negative words, curses, or other disrespectful occurrences projected on us by other people & even what we choose to expose ourselves to experiencing on a day-to-day basis). Also in this dream, my husband (who protects me in my real life) represents security that was off duty for some reason or another.

In response to a recent Facebook post I made regarding comments received from others, my husband stated the following: “Looking good babe. Everyone has an opinion. CHOOSE who you listen to.” His word choice in this instance truly resonated with me. In most situations similar to this one people will repeat the all too familiar phrase, “be careful who you listen to”. But there was something about Jerrell’s decision to say “choose”. Knowing, loving, and breathing the same air as this man on a daily basis, I know that he is one who always stays true to self. This is a quality of his that I strongly admire and strive to emulate; yet I have historically struggled in this area. This “ole” open and fun-loving soul of mine has been misjudged and even abused in some instances, and I have unfortunately allowed some things to linger for too long.

Don’t get me wrong, God has been working on me with this, but I still have more ground to cover in this process. Today I say, “No More,” and I encourage you to join me on this journey.

Heard a negative word? Dismiss it.

Someone tries to curse you (knowingly or unknowingly)? Rebuke it.

Someone’s behaviors suggests that he or she dislikes or is jealous of you (at no fault of your own)? Ignore it.

Through all these things maintain your integrity and press on to accomplish the will of God in your life.

Please do not misinterpret what I am saying, there of course will be times when you are called to speak directly to an individual’s words against your life. During these times it is necessary that you pray (yes you have time to say a quick prayer in the spirit (to yourself), or you can pray for discernment about when and how to revisit something later) and ask the Holy Spirit to provide the words that are necessary so that God’s work might be done through you and for you.

Let us join in together to make a pledge to liberate ourselves from yet another form of spiritual bondage today! This is necessary so that we might be free to do the work that our Lord has called us to complete.

God Bless You!

Proverbs 4:23 (NIV) “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it”.

Jump out the Box!

It’s been a long time since I have blogged (probably 2 weeks…I don’t know I’ve lost track.)  I have been seemingly busy with preparing for my May 6th graduation, which means trying to stay on top of my portfolio, complete my internship responsibilities, be a good research team member, etc.  Outside of grad-school, I have been preparing for an upcoming event, trying to be a good wife, trying to launch and manage a mentoring organization, pondering my future (where will I be working next year, looks like I won’t be starting a Ph.D. just yet, will I have a baby, what else can I do for my business and for Jerrell’s business?)

I promise this list could go on for days.  Be glad that I stopped when I did ; )

I am what the world would probably refer to as a jack-of-all trades, a term that I absolutely loathe.

I prefer to think of myself as something like a …

Creative Specialist

(shying away from the term Master

Creator – I believe that’s

reserved by Almighty God…

just love Him BTW).

Anyway, I hate boxes. You know those big boxes that people like to categorize people in.  I hate them for the mere fact that I simply just won’t fit.  Yeah that’s right.  Please don’t mistake my confidence for concete (see I can’t even spell it…conceit j/k ; ) or narcissism, I promise it’s simply self-love + faith in God that constantly reminds me, I can, in-fact, do all things through Christ who gives me strength (Philippians 4:13), and guess what….

Yes you can!  God believes in you.  And I have a whole team that believes in you too!  And so does your inner circle.  So what are you waiting on?  Kick the lid off of that box and just do it already!  Whatever “it” is.

I love you much!  And would love to talk to you, and even pray for you with my team, but we can only know what you need if you submit your prayer requests.  Hit me up.  God Bless!

Checked Out?

Why is it that when we’ve almost reached the finish line after a long journey…we feel the urge to give up?

There are but a few warriors who actually have what it takes to push through and actually meet the mark.

It seems as though no matter how much you have worked to develop and maintain your stamina to endure a long race, it is that last quarter of the way to the finish line that appears to be the most difficult to push through.

Your breath becomes even more difficult to catch – as though the air is thinning.  The sweat beading off of your forehead is pouring into your eyes.  You can feel the burn – it is as intense as ever.   Things that are small and you used to look right over, now coupled with some other small things…are trying to break you.

Oh if only, I could just quit! I mean I’ve come so far….it’s like that old Gospel Great by Lee Williams and The Spiritual QC’s “I Can’t Give Up”.  You know the song.

The lyrics go: “I’ve come too far to turn around.”  One of my favorite parts is the vamp that goes, “I see hills, hill, and mo’ hill, and mo’ hill, and mo’ hill, and mo’ hill that are already waiting on me, make me feel like I wanna just fold my arms – sitdown somewhere and just moan…but then when I begin to take inventory over my life turn around and look back and  I see all the hills, I see all the mountains, and the valleys, God has already brought me over that  makes me know so I steal away, look up, and tell the Lord…I’ve come too far.”

Praise God!  I had to listen to this song this morning.  Because Lord knows it looks like there are “too many rocks on these hills”, seem like when I turn to my right side, I find trouble…and then I turned to my left side…find out somebody’s sick, somebody’s in the hospital, somebody done passed and gone on.”

It feels like this sometime, but it is important to remember why you started this journey in the first place.

Remember what God has called you to accomplish.  Think about the dreams that He has laid on your heart…there is someone coming after you who is depending on you.

So you can’t check out!  You can’t give up now!  If you need to rest…take a small break, but don’t you dare give up.

For there is much work for you to do!  Keep pushin’, keep praying’  we are waiting on you.  We need you.  You are important!

God is Good!

God Bless!

Peace be still.

Peace Be Still ~ Rev. James Cleveland

I have been playing this song on repeat all morning.

After experiencing last night’s intense storm/tornado watch at home alone with the dog, I have been reminded of my super- reliable security system.

No I’m not talking about Pinnacle, who does a great job of arming and providing surveillance of my home, but I’m talking about a man named Jesus.

And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace be still. And the wind ceased and there was great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

~ Mark 4:37-41 (KJV)

Assuredly I had a calm about me, as the mighty winds appeared to shake the house, the heavy rains pounded, the lightning flashed, the thunder bolted, and the dog released the most dreaded howl.

Our Heavenly Father has an amazing power to allow the weather to commence like a symphony of many instruments with bold sounds contrasted by the soft heartbeats of His children who have truly known Him long enough to trust His unwavering faithfulness.

I thought that even the strongest atheist can’t help but revere God when beholding nature and witnessing how amazingly God can orchestrate it to do just want He wants.

Over the past few weeks I have witnessed some amazing sights and wondered, how can anyone doubt that God exists after taking in some of the greatest wonders in the world like: mountains, oceans, flowers, rainbows?Beautiful, beyond human imagination! Here are a few of those sights I’ve been privileged to capture.

God Bless & Amen.

God is able, He won’t fail.

In a season when many people find themselves at a closing point in their lives, it is important to keep yourself grounded and hold fast to your beliefs.

The closing of a life-chapter can be a scary and tumultuous time, if you allow it to be. Once accustomed to a particular practice or way of doing things it can be hard to transition, especially when you have no idea of where you’re transitioning to next.

I like to think of these times as Faith examinations by God. If we would take a moment to reflect and be honest, we can say that we’ve all been there/here before. Now whether or not you recognize your test for being just that…a test, depends on where you are on your life’s journey.

During my time on this earth, I have come in contact with all types of people. This makes life very interesting. People who have internal locus of control ( I control what happens to me) and external locus of control (things just happen to me) as referenced in psychology. As a believer of Christ – I would pose myself as having protected inner locus of control.. I define this as using the free will that God has given me to choose to allow His arms of protection to guide me on my daily walk. Nothing is just happening to me, I am purposed by the only true and risen savior to do His will on earth. As a result, amongst God’s blessings, I have and will experience spiritual attacks from the enemy: Satan. I am confident in knowing that he cannot touch me.

Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you.

(Psalm 91:7). Whew that’s heavy and to early faith-walkers a little frightening. I encourage you to fear not because God is with you (See Psalm 23 – I’m trusting you already know it; believers and the yet to decide– it’s made several movie debuts ; )

Well I digress, so back to business – The devil’s infamy is based upon his tactical ability to provide illusions for you to focus on in efforts to distract you from the will of God for your life. Once you realize the definition of illusion: sensory distortion, you will understand that none of the seeds the enemy plants are real. Your response to these illusions, is what becomes real in your life. So, don’t fall for the suckerpunch! Be alert at all times.

Ask The Lord what you may do for Him today, and allow Him to worry about the rest.

Remember that you can only be responsible for the words that come out of your own mouth no matter what someone else says or does to you.

Most importantly, don’t allow the ups & downs of life to impair your better judgement because…

God is able and He won’t fail.
